DiscoverItaly.net Now Offers Rail Travel Ticketing for Italy!

What could be more romantic than traveling through Italy by train? Rail travel has always been the preferred mode of transportation for visitors to Italy due to the convenience it offers, the wealth of scenery, the comfort of the Italian trains, and the punctuality and variety of locations accessible by rail. However, purchasing tickets, and securing advance reservations hasn't always been so easy... at least, not until now!

More Destinations

Previously, rail travel was limited by purchase to major cities as the final destination. Due to restrictions affecting pricing and destinations, the traveler had to "make do" with what was available. However, as of June 24th, 2004, DiscoverItaly.net is able to offer exclusive, direct ticketing on Italian State Railways with customized ticketing to places currently unavailable by commercial travel companies.

With the expanded travel choices now available through DiscoverItaly.net's rail ticketing, you can venture to 3,500 different sightseeing locations in Italy. Explore rustic, out of the way, colorful and historic villages previously inaccessible to the rail traveler. In addition to providing rail service ticketing to Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan, Pisa, Genoa, Lake Como, and Naples, the savvy traveler can now design a route that suits their schedule and their interests.

When you travel by rail, you can leave the driving to the conductor while you enjoy every moment along the way and leave the crowds behind. Just tell us where you would like to go and we can help you get there!

Same Day Ticketing

With DiscoverItaly.net booking your rail travel, you can receive your tickets the same day (from our Los Angeles office) or have them overnighted to you for your added convenience.

Cost Savings

Reservations are available up to 90 days in advance of travel as a benefit to our customers. And for all these added benefits, there is no extra fee - in fact, we offer our rail ticketing service at a cost savings. Since we are a direct ticketing agency, we can pass on our discounts to our customers without the "extra" fees other travel companies need to charge as a re-seller.

Reservations Offer Peace Of Mind

For travelers who like to travel in style, comfort, and with guaranteed privacy, advance ticketing is a must. Sleepers and couchettes, in particular, must be pre-purchased. As with all rail travel, seats are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. In Italy, purchasing a ticket when you arrive at the train station does not guarantee a seat. Why take the chance? We'll will provide you with a seat to make your trip stress-free and Comfortable.

First & Second Class

On all trains, travelers may choose either First-Class or Second-Class accommodations:

First-Class Benefits: While First-Class is only moderately more expensive than Second-Class, seating is roomier and more spacious, accommodations are quieter, there is more privacy, and more space for luggage. (On some premier trains, travelers also get a free meal with this ticket!)

Second-Class Benefits: For the economy-conscious traveler, Second-Class rail travel in Italy is comfortable, the accommodations are clean, and the price is very affordable. As a result, there is more opportunity to socialize with other travelers and learn about their culture.

Coach Seating

Coach is divided into First-Class and Second-Class seating. In First-Class, these open cars provide two seats on one side of a central aisle and usually a single seat on the other. The seats are roomy and comfortable. On premier trains, meals are served to passengers at their seats. On other trains, there is a dining car or a bar car or you can purchase refreshments from a food trolley that visits passengers.

Second-Class seating in coach is more snug than First-Class with two seats on either side of a central aisle. Refreshments are available, as well, in the dining car or from a food trolley.

Compartment Seating: This is a great option for families or parties traveling together. The cabins are enclosed and offer added privacy. First-Class compartments accommodate up to six passengers. Second-Class accommodates up to eight passengers.

Sleeping Accommodations on the Train: By purchasing a sleeper, whole families can stay together and save on the cost of costlier rooms in a hotel or villa and make better time by traveling at night.

Sleepers are available by advance reservation on a first-come, first-serve basis. In First-Class, the sleeping berths offer room for two people. In Second-Class, each berth accommodates up to four people. Each sleeper has a private washstand, clean linens and towels. Couples, families, and travelers of the same sex are allowed to share sleepers and are charged per person.

Couchettes: Located in Second-Class, these simple sleeping bunks line the central aisle and are open to the ceiling. A pillow and blanket are provided for each person and there is a washroom located at the end of the train. Couchettes can accommodate up to six people per bunk. Since there is no separation by sex, privacy is limited and it is advised to wear comfortable, daytime clothing while sleeping.

By using the rail service for your travel, you will be able to enjoy more destinations, meet more people, and learn more about the Italian culture and language as you travel in style!
